Dear Grace in 1.5 years
Hello friend,
By this point you should have graduated from college. That's insane. Literally what are we going to do.
Just kidding, we know exactly what we're going to do. I mean, I don't necessarily know exactly what you're going to do, but I have a pretty good idea.
You're probably starting a full time job soon in some high stress industry because I know you. Or you decided to go to law school straight out the bat, which if so, good for you. Either way, I'm proud of you and the woman you have become.
Here is just some pieces of advice I have for you, because no one is going to give you any that actually matters. No tea no shade (which is a thing people are saying a lot in 2018) but everyone is going to be telling you how to be an adult when first you need to learn how to live your life:
-Set. Boundaries.
Do not ever feel obligated to go above and beyond for anyone but yourself. It's that simple. It might sound selfish, but this is how you burn out. Do your job and do it well, but get your butt out of the office at the end of the day.
-Balance.
You may think your job is the most important thing in the world. And who knows, it might be! (Joe Biden's staff maybe? Preferably Kamala). But nothing is more important to that job than you functioning like a human being and not a malfunctioning robot. Sleep, exercise, cook some yummy food that is not just pasta (or at least try to), go on walks for fun, go to the farmers market, go thrifting, meet and hang out with friends. Your work is not you. You do your work.
-Go to therapy.
Go to therapy. Seriously. Even if you don't have time. You're notoriously unsteady when it comes to transitions, and dear God go to therapy ESPECIALLY if you are moving far away. Please go to therapy. Stop what you are doing right now and find a therapist online that is covered by insurance and call and make an appointment and go to therapy. Even if you are still on antidepressants and are doing find please dear god go to therapy.
As our idol Kris Jenner once said, you're doing amazing, sweetie.
Much love,
Grace 9/16/18
